The client's original conservatory was over thirty years old and showing serious signs of dilapidation. The seals on the windows had all blown, letting cold air into the room and unsightly condensation within the glass, obstructing the view outside. Leaks had started to form at a worrying rate, to the point that the room was unusable. The space was boiling hot in the summer and freezing cold in the winter. Luckily Vision came to the rescue!
External
We were asked to completely remove the old roof and replace with a new, fully-insulated timber framed, tiled roof. This included two remotely operated solar powered Velux windows. In addition, we were tasked with taking out the client's old French doors and replacing with a state of the art three-pane bifold door. This included removing existing brickwork and windows to accommodate the large size of the bi-folds. We were further required to remove an unneeded side door in the conservatory to make way for extra wall space. Additionally, all remaining glazing was to be replaced along with new window handles. New guttering was to be installed around the perimeter of the new roof along with external down-lights to help illuminate the garden.
Internal
Within the conservatory we were asked to completely strip out all existing electrics, baseboards, internal drainage pipes and a store cupboard. This would allow the complete re-plastering of the internal walls to cover up any defects and allow a smooth, contemporary finish. The new roof needed plastering, eight down-lights fitted, two WiFi ceiling speakers and a feature LED perimeter light. A brand new electrical ring needed installing to power all the new lights, the new WiFi controlled electric heaters and the new WiFi ceiling speakers. The lights would all be linked to a new dimmable switch panel, whilst the Velux windows would have their remote controls wall mounted next to this. Let's get started!
As with all our conservatory roof replacements we took delivery of materials on Day 1. We also made short work of the old conservatory roof, dismantling this within a few hours. That allowed us to really make a concerted effort to get the new timber roof structure completed by the end of the day, which we were able to achieve. As always, rain was due so we placed tarpaulin over the roof to make it watertight overnight.
A really exciting day for the client. Out went the old French doors and surrounding structures, including bricks and side-light windows. In went a beautiful, three-pane Korniche bi-fold door.
As with any refurbishment or roof replacement, these projects generate a significant amount of waste. You can have faith that we will thoroughly remove all rubbish from your home.
We started tiling the roof with the excellent Tapco Synthetic Slate tiles, as well as beginning the plaster-boarding of the internal structure. Our electrician visited and began running the initial cables to accommodate all the new lights, speakers and electrical points. We installed and tested the south facing solar powered Velux window too. Safe to say it was an instant hit with our client!
Completion of plaster-boarding ready for full plastering, we also fitted the second, west facing solar powered Velux window.
With the plaster drying overnight, with the help of some industrial fans, the room was ready for its first coat of paint. We also removed the old, blown glazing units and installed new glazing, complete with new window handles.
Completion of electrical install including new ceiling down-lighters, external down-lights, WiFi ceiling speakers, WiFi electrical heaters on spurs, power sockets, dimmer switches and feature LED lights sitting in a bespoke trough that runs the whole perimeter of the room.
A great day! Completion. A very happy client = very happy Vision.
N.B The client chose their own flooring contractor who hadn't been when these photos were taken on the day of completion.
Once the room had been finished by us, the client used their own flooring contractor to fully complete the room.
